Central High School – Class of 56 – 55th Class Reunion
Eighth Planning Meeting
April 7, 2011

Classmates attending:
Aline Wisher                  Dick Wisher                Dick Gable
Ed Wheeler                    Carolyn Eads               Bob Kendall
Ginny Roberts                 Dick Rapier                 Fred Boyd

Our CHS planning meeting tonight was hosted by Carolyn Eads.  A delightful dinner was enjoyed by all, as well as, a lot of interesting conversation.  We were honored to have Dick Rapier in attendance.  We were intrigued by the medical research Dick is involved in.  He answered many of our questions regarding his research and we only wish we had more time to spend with him. Hopefully, at some point in time, we may all benefit from his medical research.

Dick stated the Website has become an important marketing tool for the class reunion, and gave much credit to Chris Seger and Ralph Homes for all their help.  Dick mentioned he had set the website hits to zero in order to track the interest of our classmates. He encouraged everyone to go into the website (tulsacentral1956.com) to see the beautiful artwork Dotty Westby provided, read about classmates who served in the military, those who have written books, etc.  Also, classmates may need to check the Alumni Information Form on the website to see if you need to update your bio information.  And, don’t forget to provide information on yourself if you have served in the military, have any special recognition, information about your family, businesses, athletics, vocational, memories or you may have pictures to share, etc.  We encourage all our classmates to feel welcome to provide us any suggestions or ideas you may have to help make this a successful reunion.  You may think of something we have missed.

Fred Boyd stated we have eleven golfers who have signed up for the golf tournament.  We need a total of 24 golfers as required by the LaFortune Park contract.  Those who have made reservations are Dick Wisher, Fred Boyd, Jerry Tinsley, Dick Gable, Jim Parker, Ernie Halley, Paul and Linda Hancock, Ken and Beth Kastl, and Mike Richardson.

Aline reported we do not need to rent a jukebox since the Elks Lodge already has one loaded with 50/60’s music.

Dick Gable reported he had a signed contract from the hotel and September 5, 2011 is the last day the hotel will reserve our rooms.  Classmates need to make their reservations as soon as possible.

The committee thought it would be a great idea to post all the reunion reservations on the website. We would start getting information upon Jacqueline Wilson return from her vacation April 26, 2011 .

Dick stated that our website is getting full with all the increased data, and we should contact Allen Keenan or Jacqueline Wilson to see how many MB we have remaining.

We encourage all our classmates to make your reservations, as soon as possible.  It would be very helpful to the planning committee for decision making for our reunion.

The meeting adjourned,

Respectfully submitted,

Aline Wisher - CHS Chairman

P.S. Just an interesting observation I so enjoyed and wanted to share: - Aline

In recent emails related to our next reunion, I see there is a misperception that I have written a book.  I should have corrected it sooner, but I have been pretty busy skiing the

and, well, sort of liked this little myth about myself.  I made a living as a professional writer for newspapers and public utility employers for 40 years.  I probably could and should write a book, but the fact is I have not.  I am not sure what it was in our amiable colloquy at the reunion planning luncheon, but something said prompted me to mention that I have written a screenplay about an epic tragedy that befell a band of 12,000 full blood Creek Indians in

Oklahoma

during the first year of the Civil War.  This band followed its charismatic leader, Opothle Yahola, in a flight from their farms and villages on the
Canadian River
to a presumed Union sanctuary in

Kansas

.  They were pursued by Confederate cavalry and elements of tribes that had decided to cast their lot with the Confederacy--mostly mixed-blood Creeks from the

Arkansas

 and

Verdigris

Valleys

, Cherokees and Choctaws.  They repelled their pursuers in a series of battles taking place roughly from the confluence of the

Arkansas

 and
Cimarron
 eastward to the
Verdigris
.  After a final standoff north of

Tulsa

on Christmas Eve, Opothle's band--outmanned and out of ammunition--took flight in a classic

Oklahoma

sleet storm across the Osage Nation toward

Kansas

.  Thousands, including women and children, were slaughtered by their pursuers, especially the Texans, in what became known as the Trail of Blood on Ice.  I became obsessed with the episode and smothered my screenplay--undertaken in a screenwriting course-- with rigorously researched facts. My professor/critic looked at me at our final meeting and said, "Paul, this is a powerful story and you sucked the life out of it."  I thanked him for the feedback.  I may try to resuscitate it sometime, but other opportunities seem more important right now.

Paul

Paul,
I apologize for the error in the minutes.  While working and listening at the same time, I misunderstood the conversation.  I would agree though, you should write a book.  Everyone seemed to be having such a good time visiting during the meeting.  Please forgive me, I will correct my mistake in the next minutes.
Aline

Hi Aline:

No apology necessary.  Some of us were talking a lot at a pretty high decibel level while we were having a very good time.  Easy to understand how a small distinction between book and screen play became blurred.  I obviously enjoy the reunion committee meetings very much when I can participate.  Thanks to you and Jacqueline for all the work you do.  Paul
