moved to
Tulsa
from
Joplin
,
MO
in 1951 and entered Roosevelt Jr. High as an eighth grader. While at
Roosevelt
,
Dan
began his speaking career, often preaching in his local church youth group and
on special occasions to the entire congregation. Eventually word got out to
other churches and by the time he was at Central he spoke often in youth groups
and church services in
NE Oklahoma
and
SW Missouri
. He was licensed to preach when he
was sixteen.
He moved to
Texas
in the fall of 1956 to attend Southwestern Assemblies of God University in
Waxahachie
,
TX
. He came back to
Tulsa
after one semester thinking himself in love with an older woman who had
graduated from Central in ’54 or ’55. She announced her engagement to
another fellow right after
Dan
came home. He went back to Southwestern the next fall, whereupon he met the
girl of his dreams,
Nelda
Young
. They married in 1958 and in November will celebrate 45 wonderful years of
marriage.
They left Southwestern in 1959 and traveled for two years with
Dan
preaching in churches across
America
. They returned to
Fort Worth
in 1961 and graduated from
Texas
Wesleyan
University
in 1963. That fall they moved to
Glendora
,
California
where
Dan
became youth minister in a local church and taught school for two years. Then
Dan
was called to a larger church in 1966 to become Youth and Education Minister.
He served
Peoples
Church
in
Fresno
from 1966-71. In 1971
Dan
was recruited by the David C. Cook Company to become a Christian Education
Consultant and sales representative. Through this time he attended several
Seminaries, earning his
M.
Div
from Bethel Theological Seminary and working on a D. Min from Fuller
Theological Seminary.
In 1976
Dan
left Gospel Light to become Senior Pastor at
Camarillo
Baptist
Church
. He later served other Baptist Churches in
California
and
Washington
State
until 1997. After leading a church of 1500 members with a budget of over
$3,000,000
Dan
was enlisted to join Master Plan Ministries as a Stewardship consultant. Master
Plan Ministries directs Capital Stewardship Programs for churches throughout
America
, working across denomination lines to serve churches ranging from Pentecostal
to Presbyterian.
Dan
is now Senior Consultant and Managing Partner of the firm.
Dan
and
Nelda
have four children. Daughters,
Tammy
,
Tanya
and
Teri
have provided them with seven wonderful grandchildren. Son
Dan
, a late bloomer, graduated from
Yale
Law
School
in 2001 and was married that summer. He joined a law firm in
San Francisco
and so far there are no grandchildren from that branch of the family.
