Nancy Steffens

Nancy was a great student at Burroughs, a great dancer and darn pretty smart too!  She and Diane Martin shared the same dancing teacher.  She said she cannot remember her first kiss but thought it was Carl Washburn or Gene Landreth. Nancy said she remembers that Martha Williamson had a big house on the hill and there was a basement and plenty of kissing going on (this was in grade school). She said she cannot remember who she invited to those Roosevelt dances but remembers dancing with Alan King who was a head shorter than she was.

Nancy did not date anyone from our class at CHS. Gads, she dated a hated Rogers High fellow (she claims she met him in church, but we did not think Rogers boys went to church!).

Nancy graduated from TU with honors with a major in Communication.  Yes, she was a BWOC at TU.  President of her sorority, a class officer, student director of KWGS FM along with other honors.  Upon graduation from TU, she joined KTUL.  At that time women could not do weather, sports or news, etc.  If allowed Nancy could have become another Barbara Walters as she had much experience with on air shows at KWGS FM while in college.  However she did do weather on KTUL radio, as “Miss Frosty Knees.  When the station manager found out she was doing “ Miss Frosty Knees ” he was going to fire her, but the program sponsor loved her and she stayed on.

Later Nancy married an M.D. and began her career as office manager of a medical office.  She said it drove her crazy and she retired to become a tennis player and shopper.  We have heard from other parties that she is a GREAT tennis player.  She is now taking up golf and playing at Southern Hills Country Club.

Is this a tough course?  … you bet.  They play the US Open there!  She said the women’s slope is 141 – now that is a tough course!!!

Nancy and her husband have four boys (two his, one mine and one ours she says).  They have 6 grandchildren.  They reside in Tulsa from May to October and in Ft. Myers Florida the rest of the year.

Hopefully we will see Nancy at our 50^th reunion.
