Shirley Mizer
Shirley
says her happiest days in school were in the 9th grade at
Roosevelt
. There she dated/walked around
school with two well known “Jocks.” When the two met for the wrestling
championship everyone was asking her which one she would root for.
Shirley
married in her junior year at CHS, just as she turned 17.
NO she was not pregnant! However
she did have a baby about 9 ˝ months later!
What do you do when you have a baby in your senior year?
She had to quit school. As a
bright student, of course quitting school tortured her! She
moved to Kansas City, got her GED and began going back to school eventually
completing her BS in Business with a major in accounting … graduating with
honors from the University of Texas! She
became a CPA and opened her own successful business.
Honors? President of the
Kansas
City & Dallas Chapters of the American Society of Women Accountants.
She was nominated by the
Dallas
chapter to serve on the IRS committee. This
committee serves as a liaison between the IRS and the practioner community.
Adversity??? Her husband passed away after 20 years of marriage in 1975.
She remarried and 20-years later in 2000 her second husband passed away.
In 1997 she also had health problems and had to resign her Presidency of
ACWA and her IRS position.
Shirley
takes great pride in her family. Her
son has been married 27 years and has two adult sons.
Her daughter has been married 23 years and they have a grown son and
daughter. They all live close by.
Shirley
has retired, loves to travel, and says she loves dancing,
Internet
Bridge
and card games in general. Even
though she is retired, she maintains three antique shops in three different
malls in the
Dallas
area plus an E-Bay account to sell product.
Shirley
attended our 45th reunion and plans on attending our 50th.
See ya at the 50th
