Linda Oxley (Hancock)
Linda
was one of the cutest girls to graduate from
John
Burroughs
elementary school! Active in
everything. She was a year younger
than the other kids, but that did not hold her back.
Mary
Wayne
Lloyd
and
Karen
Bost
(6th grade class President) were her best of friends from the time
she moved into the neighborhood. She
spent a lot of time at
Rosemary
Lasater
’s playing croquet and making fudge and wondering with the girls why the boys
at
Burroughs
were so shy when it came to kissing them (we were scared to death … that’s
why!).
Linda
moved to
Tulsa
from
Shawnee
and joined the group in the 4th grade.
Being a cute girl, she caught on fast and was very popular.
She doesn’t want to sound like a “rounder” as she was very shy, but
she had her first kiss in the 3rd grade, right before she moved.
She is so shy, she did not want us to mention this. Her husband,
Paul
Hancock
(CHS ’56 grad) moved into the neighborhood and joined us in the 9th
grade at
Roosevelt
. Soon afterwards they became an
item. Both were married right after
CHS,
Linda
at 17 and
Paul
at 18! They have been married for
almost 47 years with three children and two grandchildren …both in COLLEGE
Linda
was very active in sports.
Paul
lettered in track at CHS and both are runners today.
Paul
started playing golf and little
Linda
soon followed, starting in her mid-30’s.
She plays golf 4 times a week and from our conversation, is pretty darn
good, winning many women’s tournaments.
Linda
went back to school in 1980 and became an RN (now retired so she can play more
golf). And yes, she is still cute as
a bug!
