Vicki Hamilton

Most of us remember Vicki Hamilton how could we forget her!  She was a Queen’s attendant, very popular and classified by the guys as a “Looker.”  Vicki is now a widow.  We were laughing about how the single women our age always want to be “fixed up” with a “handsome- rich guy!  Not so with Vicki .  Here is her story.

Vicki chose the University of Colorado as her school of choice, probably because her brother was enrolled at the nearby Colorado School of Mines (all male school).  She met her husband, who was a football player and a real looker at the School of Mines and from Houston. She met him the night she was crowned Homecoming Queen at the School of Mines.   They were married after one year and moved to Houston and then back to Tulsa where her husband graduated from TU.   They had two wonderful children but unfortunately he and Vicki divorced after five years of marriage.  He was a wonderful and dedicated father and they remained very close friends until his death in 1992.

Vicki ’s next husband was the “rich guy.”  Her second husband was campaign manager and executive assistant for David Hall who was a democrat governor in Oklahoma.  He also owned a trucking and heavy equipment company in Tulsa.  They had one daughter from this marriage.  An interesting tidbit, when Vicki was married to this man, Judy Davis was married to his nephew which then made Vicki Judy’s aunt – can you follow that?   Unfortunately, the pressure of the political life and other issues ended this marriage.

After this Vicki
said “I don’t want a handsome or rich guy again, Lord just give me a decent upstanding husband.”  The Lord answered her prayers. In 1976 she met and married Larry Elliott when they both worked together at the same company in Tulsa.   They moved to San Antonio in 1983 and then to Houston in 1985 where she still lives. In 1989 her first husband (and wonderful father) had a heart attack, ended up having an artificial pump put in (to keep his heart going until a donor heart was available) and then had a kidney transplant and then a heart transplant.  He was in the hospital in intensive care for 11 months.  It was tough on Vicki and the children.  In January, 1990 he was released from the hospital and able to go home. Then seven days later her current husband (only 46) had a heart attack and died.  Her first husband had to have another bypass in 1992 and did not survive the surgery.  Vicki has certainly been “unlucky in love” and has gone through some tough life ordeals.  She has been a widow for fourteen years but she says she is as happy as a puppy dog with two tails!

Vicki says that her greatest accomplishment is raising her three children to be wonderful, compassionate, good citizens and hard workers who all three love each other very much and who are great to Vicki! Her only complaint is that she does not have any grandchildren. However, she does have 10 grand dogs!!!!!

Vicki was in real estate for a while in Tulsa and also worked for several
personnel recruiting companies. She has also worked for several large computer companies. She retired a couple of years ago but still does part time work for a landscape company working at home. And get this …she has her own little business called "Vicki’s Creations." She makes things such as curtains, bedding, pillows, runners and purses. She has her own computerized embroidery machine (she has over 25,000 designs) and loves, really loves to create her own special designs (she can do logos too!).

Now for the memories. Vicki was sophomore homecoming queen
attendant. Her first kiss was from Marvin Pegues in the sixth grade. Vicki and Marvin were an "item" for about three years. However her first true love was Lonnie Canada, but he moved to California in his junior year. Vicki has never forgiven his parents.

Hey Vicki … how is your health? Now I wish I had not asked. She says her health has been excellent except for the past five years. She has had
two knee replacements she attributes to moving 39 times over the years and carrying all those heavy boxes. Some of you may not be aware but Vicki was quite a tournament badminton player in school. But with modern medicine "I am good to go for a long time (Have to keep up with my 95 year old Mother.)"

Vicki plans on attending our 50th reunion. Be sure and tell her hi!
